CHITRA is leading human rights network of the grassroots NGOs, Civil Societies Organization (CSO), Social activists, Progressive media person, Academicians and Lawyers in the India. It is dedicated to enhance the knowledge, respect, and observance of human rights & democracy to encourage exchange of information and experiences through training, education, research, advocacy, lobbying and networking on behalf of slum dwellers, tribal’s, dalits, unorganized workers, women, children, HIV+ people, disabled persons and minority community in India.
CHITRA believe in access to social justice for the poor and marginalized sections of society and deepening democracy in the interest of the marginalized. Using the law, education and publication to create awareness and fight against human rights violations, the focus remains on sustaining a network for immediate, effective and collective action from village to national levels. CHITRA is Hindi words, which means more visible, more transparent, thus CHITRA believes in transparency, accountability, community based governance and equal justice in the society. CHITRA is operating since 2005 and currently working with partner organization in 11 states in India
CHITRA is registered as a Civil Society organization under society’s registration act of XXI of 1860 and registered under 12A and under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. CHITRA is also registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010. All donations are exempted under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961
